To My Dear Children

I will be returning Poems to Read: A New Favourite Poem Project Anthology tomorrow. You can borrow it from Choa Chu Kang Community Library @Lot 1. But before I do that I would like to share this poem with you.

To My Dear Children

This book by any yet unread,
I leave for you when I am dead,
That being gone, here you may find
What was your living mother’s mind.
Make use of what I leave in love,
And God shall bless you from above.

Anne Bradstreet (1612 – 1672)

There are hardly any images in this poem.

It uses simple words.

There isn’t any particular line that leaves a deep impression on me.

I can’t smell, touch, or visualize anything from the poem.

But if you read it aloud, it sounds great! And the meaning behind this poem is one of the main reasons why I write poetry – to pass my love, my thoughts, my feelings, etc. to my children and the generations to come.

I love this piece. :)

Actually, there's a series that compiles various 101 poems, like 101 poems to get you through night and day .

I've borrowed most of the books on this series from queenstown library. it's really nice, u should try to read some of it.

(ps. i'm from sgforums, guess who i am?)
